Majestic-XII Review and ICONS Webcomic!!

Journal Entry: Mon Dec 14, 2009, 5:03 PM
Back again, folks!!

My new friend from the world of indie comics, :iconmajestic-xii-comic: aka Justin Leach, hooked me up with an advance copy of his creation Majestic-XII #1 and asked me to review it. I was honored! So, after a long delay, here finally is my review of the issue:

MAJESTIC-XII from Odyssey Comics
review by RAHeight

Story – Majestic XII tells the story of Legend, a golden-age superhero who served the United States government during WWII, who gets called back to duty after being retired for several decades. Legend has been appointed leader of a new team called Majestic XII comprised of a few old friends and a bunch of super-powered ex-cons with the mission of stopping an imminent alien invasion. Commanding the invasion is Legend’s old nemesis, Anthrax, who immediately challenges the new team to battle. Completely unprepared due to the warring personalities amongst the team and even Legend’s own awkward readjustment to the new status quo, fending off Anthrax’s assault proves to be harder than they thought.

Art – The art by Andrew Kilian is definitely entertaining. Although there is some stiffness in his figures here and there, I really enjoyed the all character designs and the sexiness of his female characters. He also did a great job with staying with the grid on laying out his panels and not trying to break them. With each issue I am sure we’re going to see him get even better, have more fun, and become more comfortable with every page. Omi Remalante’s colors complimented Andrew’s art pretty well, also.

Overall – If you’re interested in getting into a new indie superhero story from the ground up, I highly recommend Justin Leach’s Majestic XII #1. It definitely has a silver-age feel to it, which I love, and there are definitely some interesting characters within the story. You can really see in this issue that Justin is laying the groundwork for future storylines and dropping just enough info to keep you curious about the next issue. My only real critiques are that the transitions from scene to scene could be a bit smoother on both the artistic and the writing ends of things and I would like to see more establishing shots and backgrounds throughout the book. Other than that, I’m ready to pick up issue #2!

If you’re ready to give Majestic XII a try, you can purchase a copy right here: [link]

On that note, I would like to announce that the ICONS webcomic is now set-up over at DrunkDuck.com. So, you guys go on over and bookmark this link: [link] because the first page will go up Jan. 28, 2010 come hell or high water!! YEEEE-HAWWWWW!!

My Website is Back Online!!

Howdy-Do!

One of my last few non-drawing chores to do was to either get rid of all my wayward blogs and consolidate them or revamp my RAHeight.com website and start fresh. Well, it ended up with me doing both! Unfortunately, someone else owns the RAHeight.com domain now (go figure!), so I grabbed RAHeightOnline.com [link] instead!

The site I built with blogger, after deleting my other blogs and transferring the data, and I just forwarded the URL. Inspired by :iconcheeks-74: 's blog wherein he's linked every social networking site he's on, gallery he has, merchandise he's pimpin', and all around goings on -- RAHeightOnline.com is a one-stop shop of the world of..well, ..ME! :)

Feels good to take one more step towards making my life even more simpler.

Yata!

Taking Off Like a Rocket!!

....My career, that is!!

Howdy folks!!

I just wanted to share my utter happiness with my peeps here on Deviantart. Seems like all the years of hard work and frustration trying to pursue a career in comics has finally paid off in some pretty big ways. Although, I can't say much about it right now, it looks like I'll be working on some great comic projects for the next 7 months or so and I couldn't be more excited. A couple of those projects I've had and I have been waiting to be able to finish them up. While others are brand new and are going to be just as fun to get going on. It will be roughly 200+ pages of work that has to be done. It's the biggest challenge I've ever faced in comics and I'm doing all I can to prepare myself for it.

I'm just so happy to finally have not only a full plate of work to do for an extended period of time, but the freedom to not have to stress about cash flow as much as I have in the past. No, I'm not going to be able to buy a Lamborghini any time soon, but I WILL be able to pay for all my convention costs, get my bills paid on time, and still might have a bit left over to take the wife and kids out on a semi-regular basis. Not too shabby in my book.

Also, there is ICONS news over at :iconicons-comic: that will give everyone who's interested the scoop on when the book is coming out and it's format. Check it out when you can!

I'll also be attending 3 conventions this year and a possible out-of-state 4th that I haven't decided yet:

Wizard World's Anaheim Comic Con
April 16-18

San Diego Comic Con
July 21-25

Long Beach Comic Con
October 29-31

Well, as I am allowed, I will keep you all updated on the projects I'm working on and let you know when they'll be available. Although I'll be popping up less frequently, I will do my best to keep everyone in the loop on a regularly.

I couldn't have done it without the support of my family and all you guys here on DA.

Thanks and wish me luck!!

Official ICONS Comic Page on DeviantArt!!

Journal Entry: Thu Nov 19, 2009, 3:32 PM
Hey Folks!!

Just wanted to let you guys know that ICONS the Comic has it's own DA page :iconicons-comic:!! I created it 4 months or so back and now I'm officially kicking it off today. All things ICONS will be posted there from now on. So, all the folks who have been on the lookout for new ICONS stuff here on my DevARt page can now start watching the official ICONS comic page. I moved over the cover to issue #1 and the 3 promo images for the book. All the promo images over there will now sport a "Meet..." in the title and the character's full bio. So, each time one pops up, you can read all about each one of them. Right now, Omega Girl's *revised bio is up (changed the name of the city everything takes place in, a villain's name who will be showing up in the book was mentioned, and some other minor things).

Thanks again for all the support, guys!!
